Sevan is the largest lake in Armenia and the Caucasus region and one of the high-altitude lakes in the world. Lake Sevan is situared at the altitude of 1897m above sea level. The length of Sevan is 70km. The main historical site located on the shore of Lake Sevan is the monastery of Sevanavank, which was built by the royal heiress Mariam in 874, and located on a high hill.
